Gilgit Baltistan is an administrative territory of Pakistan and is also considered to be a province of Pakistan by many, although it is not an official province of the country.

The region is located in the Northern areas of Pakistan which is the most visited region of the country by tourists. Gilgit Baltistan is extremely beautiful and contains several great naturals sites to witness.

Baltistan

Baltistan covering an area of 26,000 square kilometer, comprises 5 valleys: Skardu, Khaplu, Shigar, Kharmang and Rondu. The Baltistan is the part of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. These valleys are very important from the mountaineering, trekking and mountain related adventure activities.

Since time began, Baltistan has remained isolated from the rest of the world. It was first mentioned in the annals of an AD 747 Chinese military expedition to aid Ladakh against a threatened invasion from Tibet. Fascinated, the ancient Chinese geographers named it the “Tibet of the Apricots”, because of the abundance of this fruit that grew there, and still does.

Long a Buddhist country, Islam was embraced in the fifteenth century and during the Mughal era it was annexed to India. But when Aurangzeb died it soon reverted to its isolated, independent ways, only to come under a succession of local rulers, Dogra, Sikhs and Afghans, finally coming into the Kingdom of Kashmir. At independence in 1947, However, Baltistan chose to join Pakistan, and now the Baltistan is the Part of Pakistan.

Best Places in Baltistan

Gojal Valley borders with China at Khunjerab and is at 15,397 feet above sea level. The Karakoram Highway (KKH) that connects Pakistan to China also passes through Gojal Valley and then enters China at Khunjerab. The lush green fields and full snow-covered lakes in this valley will convince you to spend your entire life in Gojal and never go back.

Deosai National Park

The park is located in Skardu, Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. It consists of high altitude alpine plains that are 4,114 meters above sea level; approximately. The place is extremely beautiful and has a very cold weather. Therefore, it is only accessible in summer due to the severity of cold there

Top attractions in Gilgit Baltistan. Attabad lake, also known as Gojal lake, was created as a result of landslides in Hunza in 2010. The lake has since been an extremely beautiful site for the international tourists as well as local ones. The formation of this lake also disturbed the local communities and the road network, but the problems have now been solved accurately.

Hussaini Hanging Bridge

The bridge is considered to be the most dangerous bridge of the world. It is a rope and wooden bridge located in the upper Hunza. The locals living there cross the bridge quite easily and do it on a daily basis, but the tourists find it extremely difficult to walk on the bridge. However, the walk may be dangerous, but it is extremely beautiful with greenery and mountainous scenery all around the bridge.

After leaving the Altit fort, the rulers of Hunza started residing in the Baltit fort. The fort was built more than 700 years ago and is an important historical site today that attracts several visitors all round the year. It is one of the great attractions in Gilgit Baltistan.

Rama Meadow

Rama Meadow is ahead of Rama Village and is almost 11 KM away from Astore district; which is one of the largest districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. The beautiful and serene plain ‘Rama Meadow’ is a must visit place due to its lush greenery and above all the peaceful environment.

If you really want to experience paradise in this world, you should visit Rama Meadows at least once. The local people of entire Astore are very hospitable and Rama has some very good places for food too. The traditional food item of this area is “Mamtu.” The cooking process of Mamtu is very special just like its taste. It is cooked in a flow of steam and very famous food item of this area.

Chaqchan Mosque

Located in the city of Khaplu, the mosque dates back to 1370. The mosque’s architecture looks a lot influenced by the Kashmiri architecture.
